[JB town turning into a dead city]

These are some pictures i took sometime ago during my training. I remember clearly that just a few years ago this part of the town was among the busiest in the entire city. With the daily influx of Singaporeans and a hive of activities involving immigration, daily bill paying duties and sightseeing, the town was alive.

Fast forward to a new year, ever since the new customs opened and the roads diverted a lot of shops have closed. This coupled with the shift of government administration to Nusajaya has taken a lot of activity and human traffic away from what was once a busy centre. Poor town planning is to blame.

The only thing alive are the banks and a shopping centre called "City Square". Others especially the small traders are pretty much dead. The area have potential but it is not being fully utilized. For example the buildings there share strong similarities to the one in Melaka and it has a history of its own. Jalan Wong Ah Fook itself is a well known name.

This part of the town is also unique because i believe this is the only place that has all the religious places of worship within walking distance. With all the potential it is a mystery why the authorities are dragging their feet in refurbishing the city and creating plan to transform the city to bring it back to its once wonderful glory.

It can be a little emotional for some of us who had grown up in JB seeing the town we once loved turn into a zombieland. Love or hate the city there are bound to be some memories that we will always cherish here.

This bookstore is where i came to redeem my "Pelajar Cemerlang" book vouchers from school.

This is one of the more well know restaurants that specialized in chicken chop. I remember eating here once in a while with friends after school. I have no idea where they shifted to.

Benches and paved roads are not attracting people.

Wither JB town?

[Pemidato dari Australia]

Kagum melihat pidato beliau. Walaupun berloghat Indonesia namun kekreatifan dan keyakinan menyampaikan pidato membuatkan saya rasa tertarik.

Quote paling menarik: "Jangan biarkan pendidikan terhenti setakat C mahupun nombor 3..."

Sangat hebat.

[when friends fight,,,]

A friend did something wrong. Morally wrong. Fine. Everybody makes mistakes but taking it out in public and telling everyone on Facebook is even worse.

First it embarrasses the parties involved.
Second it makes the issue bigger.
Third it is simply not necessary. Revenge is not always the best method to solve disputes (or betrayal).

I am not condoning what my friend did. What he did remains morally wrong. However the very act of making it public is not going to make things better. As friends to both parties a few of us are now presented with a dilemma of who to support.

See, it has now become too complicated to handle. Best solution? Keep it low and don't let it blow.

[The Audacity of Hope Review]

"The Audacity of Hope" by Barack Obama is a wonderful read for those who are into politics. This President can really write. His style of writing is very straightforward and you can feel the honesty in the words he carefully penned but it can also be very poetic sometimes. He touched on various issues - political leanings, racism, race, global issues, family and leadership; all written with factful details and in an interesting manner. Stories chronicled are those of his experience while on his first term as a senator in the US Congress.

After reading this book, it felt like i am closer to him and his ideals and i understood better why he IS who he IS. After reading this book, i no longer doubt why he has been dubbed the most exciting politician in our decade. A good read.

Does Malaysia have such law? If no, i think the time is ripe for us to enact something similar.
